Patio season is almost upon us, and we’re all eager to get outside and enjoy the good weather. So, we want to help you create the ultimate outdoor oasis right in your own backyard! With so many different property types, outdoor spaces can range from condo balconies to sprawling backyards. So, we are spreading our outdoor design tips across a three-part blog, starting with: CONDO BALCONIES!
You don’t have to have a big space in order to create the perfect Spring/Summer hangout spot – and if you live in a big city (like us), chances are you’re working with a small balcony. But big things can sometimes come in small packages, so get ready to make a big impact with these simple outdoor design tips!
With any design, we always start off by identifying the needs of the space – what purpose or functions should it serve? Not sure where to begin? We’ve got you covered! We believe the ideal outdoor space is based around these top three functions: RELAXATION, DINING, A PLACE TO GATHER. So, here’s how you can fit all three functions on your condo balcony.
Tip #1: A place to Relax
With relaxation as the top priority for outdoor living, start off your design by grounding the space with an outdoor sofa (there are amazing 3-seater & sectional sofa styles out there with high/low price ranges). This will act as both ample seating as well as a place to lay down and catch an afternoon nap in the fresh air! If standard patio furniture is too big for your condo balcony, consider alternatives by incorporating simple modular seating that can be easily pushed together or spread apart depending on the occasion. You can also take advantage of your vertical space and hang a hammock or swing; a perfect combination of relaxation and swag!

Tip #2: A Place To Dine
An outdoor dining table and fold-up chairs will give your space the versatility to be a simple table for 1 or 2, but can be transformed to a soirée for 4 or even 6! Don’t have enough space for a dining set, now that you’ve added a sofa? Try this: you can also use ‘C’ side tables to act as dining surfaces around your sofa! No need to compromise your comfort for dining (or dining for comfort)! On the topic of dining; make sure that you purchase a beautiful set of outdoor dining dishes and cutlery. And for your glassware, you could opt for a plastic set, but we always feel that drinking from a real glass makes everything taste better!

TIP #3: A PLACE TO GATHER
Balconies make for the perfect place to gather with your loved ones to catch-up, eat & chill! It can be a challenge to ensure that you have sufficient seating for your guests to enjoy! We recommend incorporating a variety of modular seating types, like floor pillows, stools & poufs that can be moved around so that you can maximize your seating capacity. Make sure that these accent pieces add a WOW factor to your balcony with fun patterns and/or POPS of colour!
